Make Me a Freemason - Help me to reach my goal in 2008
Freemasonry, Second Life and Virtual Worlds.
June 14th, 2008 by Ryan
The Age’s Digital Life section published an article, Second Life provides virtual classrooms on May 22nd, 2008. The article says that women in Freemasonry only exist in the virtual world…
UQ Studies in Religion lecturer Dr Helen Farley today said one of the first projects planned for UQ’s hall was a series of places of worship, including a mosque, synagogue, church, wicca circle and Freemasons Lodge that UQ Study of Religion students could visit.
“The idea is that we can send students in there to recreate some rituals or to do some role playing and the idea is to try and immerse them in these experiences,” Dr Farley said.
She said it overcame obstacles such as intruding upon people during prayer and gender restrictions.
Obviously if you’re a woman you can’t become a Freemason and so under normal circumstances a woman wouldn’t get to participate in Freemasonic rituals but that becomes possible in Second Life,” she said.

The Beehive, Ghandi and Freemasonry
June 14th, 2008 by Ryan
The Beehive website welcomes users with, “Welcome to The Beehive and 21st Century Masonry. Expect this place to be both inspiring and provocative and controversial.” Today, the website posted a story about Gandhi’s Ten Fundamentals for Changing the World and how Ghandhi’s points relate to Freemasonry. Here is a brief snippet:
Take #1 -
“You must be the change you want to see in the world.”My Masonic business card has this saying on it: “Populi quidem accipio lumine fieri apparuit mater lumen” - That is >> “They who have been given light, must be the light.”
Isn’t Freemasonry all about changing or bettering the inner person? This is where all that community/charitable work which should be an outward expression of inner development has overtaken the primary purpose of what Masonry is, thereby obscuring its original purpose. In other words the charitable aspect of Freemasonry should be a by product of its more central focus - making good men better.
How do you do that- make good men better - asks many a Mason. Obviously those who ask belong to Lodges where the Child ID Program, the fish fry and the ladies night dinner and dance is what practicing Freemasonry is all about.
But stop a minute and think about what Freemasonry and the study thereof can do to change you to be a light unto the world.
